Floratam is a variety of sod that was co-produced by the University of Florida and Texas A&M University. The product is a favorite for Florida as it grows well on sandy soil and it has proven to be a very popular variety of St. Augustine. Floratam’s blades are wide and dark green giving it a strong curb appeal. Floratam generally does best in direct sunlight but it can take some shade as long as there is direct sunlight for 4-5 hours per day. Floratam is a relatively easy to maintain grass with chinch bugs and sod worms as its primary threats to its health. With a heavy frost, Floratam will become brown but will green up quickly as the temperatures begin to rise again.
